NDL is a proud Gold Member of the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust - a charity dedicated to preserving, conserving and restoring our local wildlife while bringing people closer to nature.
Our Social Purpose
For the public good
We work with organisations that positively contribute to our society. In providing software and expert services to the UK public sector, we know our technological expertise and advancements are used for the public good. We’re dedicated to helping our customers achieve ethical, responsible, and functional operations in NHS and healthcare, local government, policing, education and housing sectors - so we're confident our digital transformation technologies have a meaningful impact, wherever implemented.
For a greener world
Our transformative technologies not only revolutionise public sector processes, but they can also significantly reduce our customer’s carbon footprints. With Robotic Process Automation (RPA), mobile apps, eForms, APIs and workflows we’ve helped to save hundreds of millions of sheets of paper, hundreds of thousands of litres of fuel and thousands of megawatts of electricity.
We're passionate about the environment, and the power of technology in tackling climate change. We're proud to disclose that we're a Carbon Neutral business, in line with PPN 06/21.
NDL works with Make it Wild as part of its CRP, planting trees to offset a small portion of our carbon emissions - all while supporting local wildlife and biodiversity.
NDL sponsors its local environmental group, supporting them to deliver events, initiatives and talks within the community.
Our environmental commitments
NDL stands by a strong set of environmental commitments, allowing us to maintain carbon neutrality. Over the last decade, it’s estimated that we’ve reduced our carbon and environmental footprint by over 95% through best environmental practices - whether we're working at the office, at home, or out in the community.
- Helping our customers to avoid unnecessary travel and paper wastage
- Using energy, consumables, and services from green, zero-emission and ethical sources
- Ensuring the materials we use can be recycled, especially avoiding single-use plastics
- Promoting recycling as a culture within our working environments
- Avoiding unnecessary travel, while promoting the use of public transport, cycling, walking and electric vehicles where required
- Providing green travel schemes, such as Cycle to Work and EV salary sacrifice
- Reducing our energy and CO2 footprints, by avoiding the use of paper and printing, while utilising only efficient equipment and processes
- Maintain our purpose-built office's "A" ECP rating
- Continue to provide on-premises environmental solutions – such as EV charging and solar power
- Supporting and engaging with green initiatives in our local community
For equal opportunities
At NDL, we’re dedicated to providing equal opportunities to every single member of our community. Whether that’s through our own internal recruitment and staff development policies, or the support we provide to our wider communities through donations, educational schemes and engagement activities.
Equality & diversity
Whether you’re considering a career with us, or you’re joining the NDL Community as a customer, we promise to provide equal opportunities for every individual we work alongside.
We celebrate our differences, welcoming those from all backgrounds, age groups, religions, and cultures – while respecting and recognising all gender identities, sexual orientations and disabilities. We pride ourselves on a diverse team with a fantastic range of skills, working alongside a community of public sector professionals.
Education
At NDL, we believe everyone should have equal access to knowledge, skills, and education. That’s why we put education and staff development at the core of our business. We support all of our customers with tailored training, allowing public sector staff to get the most from our software. Our partnerships with local schools, universities and other training facilitators also mean that our team can develop their professional skills, supporting them in their NDL careers and onwards.
For a stronger community
As an ethical, UK-based SME, we endeavour to support our local community in any way that we can. Giving back is at the core of our business, with our mission to improve the working lives of those in the public sector – allowing them to provide even better services to the members of our public. To echo this sentiment within our own area, we endeavour to assist our local community however possible.
“This is the biggest single donation we’ve received this year. It will all make for a much-improved working environment, helping our staff to effectively deliver much-needed services to the older people of York. It has made a real difference, at this time of change for our organisation, and is truly appreciated by the trustees, staff, and volunteers.”
Howard Widdall – Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees, Age UK York

Local charitiesNDL regularly dedicates time to charitable fundraising – both as a company and as individuals outside of work. We often match and amplify our internal teams’ charitable activities to further encourage all efforts. As a team, we’ve donated to numerous local charities year on year, including Age UK York and Marie Curie. From office furniture and electrical donations, to sponsored walks and hikes – we encourage efforts across the board. Our team is driven by the desire to help, both in our services and our internal engagement activities.
-
Local healthcare providersWorking within the public sector, we know how much our healthcare services need support. That’s why we undertake multiple engagement efforts for our local healthcare providers, raising both awareness and funds wherever possible. Our initiatives are not only inspired by the personal stories of our own team, but by those we come into contact with every day. We’ve already raised funds for local providers like Leeds General Infirmary, St Michael's Hospice and St Leonard’s Hospice, and we’re always aspiring for more.
-
Local schoolsAs an SME within the technology sector, we know the importance of educational accessibility and the schools within our community. Any usable technology no longer required by our team – such as computers and laptops – is always donated to those who can still make great use of it. As part of this initiative, we’ve donated numerous devices and workspace furniture to Tadcaster Grammar School, Boston Spa Academy, and several local primary schools in our area.
-
Local habitatsAs part of our pledge to the environment, NDL place full support on those looking after its local ecosystems. It regularly engages with groups such as Make it Wild, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and Boston Spa, Wetherby & Villages Community Green Group (BSGG) - local collectives that work to reduce carbon emissions, increase biodiversity, prevent waste and promote recycling around Wetherby and wider Yorkshire.
