Medway Council wins integration award

30 July 2015

Medway Council has triumphed at the recent NDL Awards, winning the Best Integration/Automation Project. This is in recognition of a far-reaching project which has saved significant capital costs, supported a major transformation project and improved customer service. The award was announced at the annual NDL Software User Group, which took place in London in June.

Medway’s award was in recognition of its use of NDL’s integration toolkit, awi SX, to support its ‘Better for Less’ programme. This is aimed at saving £14 million while still maintaining or improving frontline services.

Medway created an ‘integration hub’ which ensures information is reflected in both the back-office systems and its Lagan CRM system, enabling contact staff to have relevant and timely information to hand when customers call. The project has saved significant capital costs by eliminating the need for expensive vendor-specific APIs.  Re-keying of data into disparate systems has been reduced, which saves considerable time as well as improving data integrity.

The project also provides easy access to documents for contact centre staff, and updates both the CRM and back-office systems with information sent in by external contractors. Medway has also used awi SX to migrate over 1.6 million records to its new document management system: this only took several months to complete rather than an estimated nine man years if carried out manually.

The judges chose Medway Council because of its “imaginative use of awi across a wide range of systems and services, with an excellent return on investment. It shows a strategic approach and is running across business-critical applications.”

Declan Grogan, Managing Director of NDL, commented: “Local authorities are facing the dual challenges of introducing efficiencies while maintaining or improving service levels. Medway’s use of awi SX is exemplary in its scope and imagination, and it demonstrates that those dual challenges can be met. We applaud their use of our technology which shows just what can be achieved through cost-effective integration and automation.”

NDL supplies easy-to-use software toolkits to integrate disparate back-office systems and to develop offline, cross-platform mobile business applications. By radically simplifying these two key areas, NDL has given over 200 UK public sector organisations across local government and the NHS the ability to integrate and mobilise their systems. This has resulted in significant savings of both time and money, changing the way frontline services are being delivered. With a pedigree stretching over 30 years, NDL is a profitable UK company priding itself on both technical innovation and high standards of customer care.
